Tour de France 2017

 

Haven’t they got wings, our men who have been able to climb up to heights where even eagles don’t fly? … Oh Sappey, Oh Laffrey, Oh Col Bayard, Oh Tourmalet! I shall not fail in my duty to proclaim to the world that you are like an insignificant and common beer compared to the Galibier: all one can do before this giant is doff one’s hat and bow.

Transfer from airport or train station to the chalet

Collect any hire bikes

Acclimatization, relaxation, exploration 

Day 2

Col de Petit St Bernard.  

Day 3

Cycle the famous Col de La Madeleine finishing in La Chambre

Day 4

Spend the day in Chambery and watch the Nantua-Chambery stage finish.

Local ride from Landry to Rosuel then return to watch the Final Stage at the chalet or in a local bar.

Day 9

The Col d'Iseran, which is the highest paved mountain pass in Europe, can be reached directly from the chalet climbing from 800m in Bourg St Maurice to 2764 at the top of the Col. Starting in Val D'Isere this is a less challenging ride but the views are spectacular.

Day10

Les Arcs, La Plagne.  Both these resorts have featured recently in the Tour as mountain finishes.  Either climb one or both with a flat ride beside the River Isere in between or jump on the funicular from Bourg Saint Maurice to Les Arcs 1600.
